Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Magelang Decreased by 3.3% in the Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Magelang Regency, Central Java, was 11.24% in 2024.

This figure increased by 0.01% from the previous year's 11.23%, while in the last 5 years, it decreased by 3.3%.

Indonesia's average PoU was 8.27% in 2024. This means that the PoU in Magelang Regency is higher compared to the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that less than 11.24% of the total population in Magelang Regency consumes food but has insufficient energy intake.

Compared to 34 other regencies/cities in Central Java Province, Magelang Regency's PoU ranks 31st. The area with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Salatiga City (4.04%), and the highest (last rank) is Wonosobo Regency (13.39%).
