Mount Lewotobi Male Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, August 24, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Male in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (24/8/2025) at 05.59 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Male has erupted 19 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 800 meters above the peak or 2,384 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 153 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Male is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 24, 2025, from 00.00-06.00 AM WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 153 seconds.

Then, 10 times of exhalation earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and a duration of 34-60 seconds, and 5 times of low-frequency earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and a duration of 24-27 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Male and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of the Mount Lewotobi Male eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,765 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,304 times), while Mount Lewotobi Male erupted 475 times.
