Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, August 26, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (8/26/2025) at 08:32 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,823 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17.3 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 26, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 20 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-29.9 millimeters and durations of 30-64 seconds. Additionally, there were 38 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-4.8 millimeters and durations of 27-50 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic flows from the Southern and Southeastern sectors, the Western sector, and the Northeastern sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,805 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,318 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 246 times.
