Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, February 24, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 2:15 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 12 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 51 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 24, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 26 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 9-28 millimeters and durations of 28-59 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 31 tremor events with amplitudes of 3-7 millimeters and durations of 23-33 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5-28 millimeters and durations of 81-136 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,549 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (751 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 676 times.
