Alert! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Tuesday, April 14, 2026)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) at 14:31 WIB. In the past week, Mount Semeru has erupted 15 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be about None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No eruption visuals were observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 125 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on April 14, 2026 from 06:00-12:00 WIB showed 12 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-22 millimeters and durations of 98-145 seconds. Then, 6 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-5 millimeters and durations of 28-59 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 13 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, residents should avoid activities within 500 meters of the riverbank along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for being affected by expanding pyroclastic flows and lahar flows up to 17 kilometers from the peak.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,466 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the highest number of eruptions with 790 events.
