Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, January 18, 2026)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (18/1/2026) at 09:47 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,823 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 35.8 millimeters and a duration of 53 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on January 18, 2026, from 00:00-23:59 WITA showed 466 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12.8-36.2 millimeters and durations of 41-85 seconds.

Additionally, 320 exhalation quakes with amplitudes of 5.1-16.7 millimeters and durations of 26-43 seconds, and 44 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5.4-9.7 millimeters and durations of 100-140 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/hikers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 2-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and sectorally 2.5 kilometers to the south-southeast and west from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 252 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (141 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 12 times.
