780 Hotspots Detected in Indonesia in the Last 24 Hours (Sunday, August 17, 2025)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring in the last 24 hours shows that 780 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots increased by 212 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Sunday (August 17, 2025) at 11:54 AM WIB. Of the 780 hotspots detected, 34 points have a high confidence level, 668 points are medium scale, and 78 points are low scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. Low scale has a range of 0 - 29, medium scale 30 - 79, and high scale 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a particular area.

The highest number of detected hotspots was in East Nusa Tenggara with 298 points. West Kalimantan ranked second with 133 hotspots. North Sumatra was in third place with 118 hotspots.

A total of 75 hotspots were detected in Aceh, followed by East Java with 30 hotspots, and Maluku and West Nusa Tenggara each had 15 and 14 detected hotspots, respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and is not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires over a wide area.
