The government and several institutions are working to synergize data on cases of violence against women (VAW). This collaboration is essential for developing policies, programs, and activities to protect women.
The three institutions involved are Simfoni (Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA)), Sintas Puan (National Commission on Violence Against Women - Komnas Perempuan), and Titian Perempuan (Forum Pengada Layanan).
“To reduce the number of cases of violence against women in Indonesia requires effective, efficient, and sustainable measures in prevention, support, recovery, and law enforcement. Therefore, the availability of complete and accurate data is an absolute prerequisite for developing effective and efficient programs, policies, and service provision,” said KemenPPPA Secretary Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu in a joint press release on the synergy of the Violence Against Women database in Jakarta, Monday (5/9/2022).
Based on data from the three institutions, 27,335 women were victims of violence throughout 2021. The details are as follows:
* Sinfoni PPA: 21,758 people
* Sintaspuan KP: 4,010 people
* Titian Perempuan FPL: 1,567 people
* Total: 27,335 people
During the July-December 2021 period, KemenPPPA data showed that the highest type of VAW was sexual violence, while Komnas Perempuan and FPL recorded the highest number of cases of psychological violence.
Geographically, three provinces in Indonesia, namely West Java, Central Java, and East Java, have the highest reported cases of VAW. The highest number of VAW victims were in the Senior High School (SMA) education level.
