Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, April 22, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 08:51 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 10 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 800 meters above the peak (1,887 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 22, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 211 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 32.54-141.79 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 9 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 7-27 millimeters, S-P intervals of 17.04-43.36 seconds, and durations of 66.09-126.35 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-4 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,123 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,373 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 102 times.
