For the first to third year of MBG implementation, Celios stated, it should be focused on regions with a priority need for nutritional supplementation for elementary school (SD) children.

“The government can start in several regions, such as Papua, Maluku, Sulawesi, Aceh, Kalimantan, and Nusa Tenggara,” Celios explained in its report.

Based on the details of priority regions, Celios recommends 45,282 elementary schools (SD) in MBG priority areas. This total consists of 33,189 public elementary schools and 6,225 private elementary schools.

“A total of 45,282 elementary schools is equivalent to 30.4% of the total number of elementary schools in Indonesia, which reaches 148,975 units,” Celios said.

By province, the highest number of recommended elementary schools is in South Sulawesi Province, followed by East Nusa Tenggara Province and West Kalimantan Province, as shown in the table above.

Celios' study was conducted in 2024, and the elementary school count is based on 2023 education statistics issued by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
