10 Indonesian Provinces with the Highest Number of Child Abuse Cases in 2024

According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), there were 19,628 reported cases of child abuse in Indonesia throughout 2024.

West Java had the highest number of reported child abuse cases that year, with 1,971 cases.

Other provinces with a significant number of similar cases include East Java (1,489 cases), Central Java (1,309 cases), Jakarta (1,166 cases), and North Sumatra (1,029 cases).

Following these were South Sulawesi (981 cases), Riau (951 cases), West Sumatra (721 cases), Banten (690 cases), and East Nusa Tenggara (681 cases).

According to a KemenPPPA survey, the prevalence of violence against boys decreased from 61.7% in 2018 to 49.83% in 2024.

Over the same period, the prevalence of violence against girls decreased from 62% to 51.78%.

This survey indicates that 45 out of 100 Indonesian boys and girls aged 13-17 have experienced emotional abuse.

"Forms of emotional abuse experienced include those from parents (unloved, called stupid, yelled at, threatened, told they were unwanted) and from peers (discrimination based on ethnicity/religion/race/group, indecent gestures, physical stigma, bullying based on physical condition and family economic status)," stated KemenPPPA in a press release (December 23, 2024).
