Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, March 24, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 08:29 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 11 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 41 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 24, 2025, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 25 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 31-59 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 39 tremor events with amplitudes of 3-15 millimeters and durations of 29-40 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 8-24 millimeters and durations of 29-88 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,382 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,095 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 937 times.
