Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, September 20, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (20/9/2025) at 05.23 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 9 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 600 meters above the peak or 2,023 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 30.1 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 20, 2025, at 00.00-06.00 WITA showed 58 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 9.2-34 millimeters and durations of 31-79 seconds.

Additionally, there were 59 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-9 millimeters and durations of 25-58 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.6 millimeters s-p 15 seconds and a duration of 101 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from falling/sliding lava and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast, West, and Northeast sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,166 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,462 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 277 times.
