Alert! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, April 21, 2026)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at 06:25 WIT. In the past week, Mount Dukono has erupted 4 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is approximately 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,087 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 millimeters and a duration of 49.79 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 21, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 132 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and earthquake durations of 29.8-97.23 seconds.

Then, 6 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-27 millimeters, s-p times of 14.64-30.09 seconds and earthquake durations of 61.35-96.5 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor earthquake with amplitudes of 1-4 millimeters, dominated by 2 millimeters.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,583 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (840 eruptions) while Mount Dukono has erupted 65 times.
