Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, March 31, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 00:24 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 13 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 31, 2025, from 12:00 to 18:00 WIT showed 30 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 26-67 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 54 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 20-38 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-3 millimeters and durations of 36-70 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,515 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,163 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 984 times.
