Mount Semeru Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, March 11, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 6:44 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 34 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 11, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB showed 55 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and durations of 65-184 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 4-8 millimeters and durations of 32-55 seconds, and 4 distant tectonic quakes with amplitudes of 5-25 millimeters, S-P 13-41 seconds, and durations of 35-97 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, the public should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (river boundary) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow and lahar flows extending up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,081 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 975 eruptions.
