Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 04:22 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 3 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 25.9 millimeters and a duration of 321 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 16, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 154 seconds.

Then, 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 46 seconds, and 10 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.2-5.9 millimeters and durations of 7-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,725 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,517 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 657 times.
