Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, November 5, 2024)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 06.27 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 10 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak (1,887 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on November 5, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 248 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-27 millimeters and durations of 32.4-58.83 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 6 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-20 millimeters, s-p 16.28-27.16 seconds, and durations of 58.9-78.44 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-5 millimeters, dominant at 3 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 3-kilometer radius.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,783 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,926 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 42 times.
