Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon, Eruption Height Approximately 700 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 12:04 WITA (West Indonesia Time). In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 32 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 700 meters above the peak (2,284 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 31.5 millimeters and a duration of 180 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on June 22, 2024, from 06:00 to 12:00 WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 26.6-47.3 millimeters and durations of 255-510 seconds.

Then, there were 2 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 7.4 mm and durations of 22-71 seconds, and 1 tremor with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 18 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 4-kilometer radius in the northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,237 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (539 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 235 times.
