Mount Dukono Erupts Again Today, Eruption Height Reaches 750 Meters

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) at 12:01 WIT. In the past week, Mount Dukono has erupted twice.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column is approximately 750 meters above the peak (1,837 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 25 millimeters and a duration of 44.25 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 14, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 103 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7-34 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33.72-67.88 seconds.

Then, 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-25 millimeters, no observed s-p, and earthquake durations of 68.83-83.85 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor earthquake with amplitudes of 1-5 millimeters, dominated by 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,463 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (789 times) while Mount Dukono has erupted 44 times.
