Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, April 13, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (April 13, 2026) at 8:21 PM WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 6 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed is around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 49 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 13, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 119 eruption/explosion earthquakes with an amplitude of 15-28 millimeters and a duration of 37-120 seconds.

Then, 3 emission earthquakes with an amplitude of 4-10 millimeters and a duration of 35-46 seconds, as well as 30 harmonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 2-28 millimeters and a duration of 25-179 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,449 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (782 eruptions) while Mount Ibu erupted 531 times.
