Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, January 18, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday (1/18/2026) at 20:39 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 30 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

No visual eruption was observed. Mount Ibu's eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on January 18, 2026, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 108 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-51 seconds.

Then, 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 4 mm and a duration of 39 seconds, and 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-8 millimeters and durations of 33-38 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 258 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (145 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 95 times.
