Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Paniai Falls 16.11% in the Last Year

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Paniai Regency, Central Papua, was 58.96% in 2023.

This figure is down 11.32% from the previous year's 70.28%, while it has increased by 28.1% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Paniai Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where an individual regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that in Paniai Regency, the percentage of the population consuming insufficient food to meet their energy needs is 58.96% of the total population.

Compared to seven other regencies/cities in Central Papua Province, Paniai Regency ranks 6th in terms of PoU. The regency with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Nabire Regency (28.08%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Dogiyai Regency (67.17%).
