Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts on Thursday Morning, Activity Level at Alert

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (25/9/2025) at 10.18 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 47 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak (1,984 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 25, 2025, from 00.00-06.00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 95 seconds.

Subsequently, 3 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-5.9 millimeters and durations of 34-59 seconds, and 2 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4.4-5.9 millimeters and durations of 67-92 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral distance from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in the Southwest-Northeast direction.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,321 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,485 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 609 times.
