Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Evening (Friday, April 4, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 3:53 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 31 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 52 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 4, 2025, from 00.00 to 06.00 WIT showed 26 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 30-51 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 40 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 4-9 millimeters and durations of 17-40 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5-16 millimeters and durations of 51-72 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,601 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,205 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,010 times.
