Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, March 28, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 5:39 PM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 69 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 28, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB showed 47 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-22 millimeters and durations of 60-184 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 7 mm and a duration of 114 seconds, and 11 emission quakes with amplitudes of 5-8 millimeters and durations of 48-169 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, the public should not conduct activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (riverbed) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow and lava flows extending up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,480 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 1,147 eruptions.
