Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts on Friday Night, Status Alert

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (1/8/2025) at 7:36 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 15.6 millimeters and a duration of 39 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on August 1, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 13 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.8-18.7 millimeters and durations of 31-56 seconds. Subsequently, there were 24 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.2-5.4 millimeters and durations of 20-47 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,409 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,173 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 202 times.
