Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, February 4, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) at 22:12 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 21 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the south. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 57 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on February 4, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 113 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 13-28 millimeters and durations of 34-68 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 emission earthquake with an amplitude of 4 millimeters and duration of 36 seconds, as well as 7 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 44-83 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 472 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (250 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 190 times.
