Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, September 20, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (September 20, 2025) at 07:16 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 20, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 2 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 29.6-47.3 millimeters and durations of 157-405 seconds.

Subsequently, 5 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 14.8-29.6 millimeters and durations of 25-27 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters s-p 29.8 seconds and a duration of 80 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral distance from the southwest-northeast direction from the center of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,167 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,462 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 512 times.
