Food Insecurity Prevalence in Agam Reaches 9.86% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, reached 9.86% in 2023.

This figure is up 0.81% from the previous year's 9.05%, and has increased by 3.95% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Agam Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where an individual regularly consumes insufficient food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of the population in Agam Regency consuming insufficient food to meet their energy needs does not reach 9.86% of the total population.

Compared to 18 other regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province, Agam Regency ranks 18th in terms of PoU. The areas with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) are Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency (5.88%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Mentawai Islands Regency (10.62%).
