Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 189 in the Last 24 Hours (Wednesday, June 12, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) forest and land fire monitoring system, SiPongi, the last 24-hour monitoring shows 189 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is an increase of 40 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Wednesday (12/6/2024) at 16.47 WIB. Of the 189 hotspots detected, 4 have a high confidence level and 185 are of medium scale.

The confidence level of hotspots is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires in a particular area.

The highest number of hotspots was detected in East Nusa Tenggara with 39 hotspots. East Java is second with 32 hotspots, followed by East Kalimantan with 31 hotspots.

22 hotspots were detected in South Kalimantan, followed by West Nusa Tenggara with 14 hotspots, and South Sumatra and Riau with 9 and 7 hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
