PVMBG prohibits all activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan within 13 km of the summit. Outside this zone, residents must avoid the 500 meter river buffer zone along Besuk Kobokan: pyroclastic flows and lahars may reach up to 17 km from the crater.
