Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, September 5, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday (5/9/2024) at 12:51 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 16 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, no visual eruption was observed. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 5, 2024, from 06:00 to 12:00 WITA showed 6 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.2-2.9 millimeters and durations of 14-240 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 6 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-47.3 millimeters, S-P times of 0.8-1.3 seconds, and durations of 8-11 seconds; and 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters, S-P time of 6.6 seconds, and a duration of 66 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,485 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,384 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 602 times.
