Between October 7th and 16th, 2023, the Israel-Palestine conflict resulted in approximately 4,100 deaths and 16,100 injuries on both sides.
By the 10th day of the war, Monday evening (October 16th, 2023), the number of Palestinian casualties was approximately double that of Israeli casualties.
According to data compiled by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of Monday, October 16th, 2023, the majority of Palestinian casualties were in the Gaza Strip: approximately 2,808 deaths and 10,850 injuries. In the West Bank, there were 58 deaths and 1,176 injuries.
On the other hand, Israeli casualties amounted to 1,300 deaths—with no new deaths reported since Thursday, October 12th, 2023—and 4,121 injuries.
The wave of displacement in the Gaza Strip is also reported to be continuously increasing.
"Following Israel's order to evacuate the northern part of the Gaza Strip on October 13th, the number of displaced persons may have reached one million, including approximately 333,000 people residing in UNRWA shelters, under increasingly dire conditions," OCHA stated in its report on Monday, October 16th, 2023.
"The siege of Gaza continues. The Rafah crossing remains closed, preventing the entry of much-needed humanitarian aid, including food, water, and medicine from Egypt."
"Gaza has experienced a complete power outage for six consecutive days. Hospitals are on the brink of collapse, as fuel reserves to operate backup generators are almost depleted, endangering the lives of thousands of patients."
"In addition, it is estimated that hundreds of people are still trapped under rubble, raising humanitarian and environmental concerns, including those stemming from decomposing bodies under collapsed buildings," said OCHA.
