Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, August 27, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (8/27/2025) at 10:03 AM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 13 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption''s visual was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 52 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on August 27, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 117 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 33-70 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 31-40 seconds, and 20 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 32-94 seconds.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,825 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,330 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,132 times.
