Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, April 21, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 10:11 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 17 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 400 meters above the peak or 1,725 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 45 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 21, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT showed 25 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 38-50 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 34 tremor events with amplitudes of 5-9 millimeters and durations of 26-47 seconds, and 38 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-7 millimeters and durations of 8-16 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,077 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,363 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,171 times.
