Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Reaches 500 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 09:32 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak or 2,084 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 125 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 31, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 3 instances of tremor with amplitudes of 2.2-5.9 millimeters and durations of 32-46 seconds. Furthermore, there were 4 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-47.3 millimeters, S-P intervals of 13-24.5 seconds, and durations of 54-60 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,527 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,173 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 228 times.
