Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, September 29, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (29/9/2024) at 10:15 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 30 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak or 2,384 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 6.6 millimeters and a duration of 411 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on September 29, 2024, from 00.00-06.00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 374 seconds.

Then, 1 shallow volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 9 seconds, and 1 deep volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 9.6 millimeters s-p 0.8 seconds and a duration of 13 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the center of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast direction and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,193 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,759 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 717 times.
