Lewotobi Laki-laki Volcano Erupts Thursday Afternoon, Status Raised to Alert

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 5:57 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 12 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 700 meters above the peak (2,284 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18.5 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 10, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 60 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 13 tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-18.5 millimeters and durations of 35-105 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 43-188 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,731 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,262 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 246 times.
