The Indonesian government had administered approximately 62.48 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines nationwide by Sunday, July 25, 2021. Nationally, the first dose has only reached 16.5% of the target, while the second dose has reached 6.6% of the target.
At least 44.55 million people have received the first dose. Meanwhile, 17.93 million people have received the second dose. The government continues to accelerate vaccine distribution to minimize the transmission of the coronavirus. The target recipients include health workers, the elderly, public officials, the general public, and children aged 12-17 years.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) instructed Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin to increase the rate of Covid-19 vaccination in West Java, Central Java, and Banten. Vaccination rates in these three regions remained low, at 12-14%, as of July 18, 2021.
Jokowi hopes that herd immunity against Covid-19 can be achieved in Java by the end of August or at the latest, mid-September 2021. The vaccination rate continues to be accelerated due to the high transmission rate of the coronavirus in Indonesia.
According to Worldometer data, Indonesia had 3,166,505 Covid-19 cases as of July 25, 2021. 573,908 of these cases were active, placing Indonesia fourth globally. Meanwhile, 2,509,318 people have recovered, and 83,279 deaths have been recorded.
The government urges the public to continue practicing the 3M's (washing hands with soap, wearing masks, and maintaining distance) to suppress the spread of Covid-19. The public needs to get used to washing their hands with soap, wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility to contribute to reducing coronavirus transmission.
