With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, 82 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting weekly testing exceeding the national average. Data as of Thursday, September 29, 2022, shows the national average testing rate at 17.14 percent. This testing achievement data is calculated based on the number of people tested compared to each region's weekly target, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Balikpapan City, Mimika, Surakarta City, Metro City, and Semarang City, with percentages of 393.94 percent, 310.71 percent, 236.49 percent, 230.29 percent, and 208.28 percent, respectively.
Balikpapan City ranks first. With a population of 646,020, the weekly testing percentage is recorded at 393.94 percent. The latest positive rate is 4.49 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is Mimika. The population in this region is recorded at 221,810. In an effort to counter the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly testing percentage is 310.71 percent. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 4.31 percent, also down from the previous week's percentage.
Then, Surakarta City, with a population of 519,800, has a weekly testing percentage of 236.49 percent; Metro City has a testing percentage of 230.29 percent; and the weekly testing percentage in Semarang City is recorded at 208.28 percent.
In anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the national Covid data recapitulation, there are 202 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting higher weekly testing percentages than before. Meanwhile, 166 other regencies/cities recorded lower weekly testing percentages compared to the previous week.
Regions outside Java with the highest weekly testing percentages include Balikpapan City, Mimika, and Metro City, with weekly testing percentages of 393.94 percent, 310.71 percent, and 230.29 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue to reduce Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
