COVID-19 statistics in the Americas this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 10 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Argentina, Suriname, Uruguay, Honduras, and Ecuador. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, July 1, 2022, amounted to 73, with a weekly growth exceeding 81.82 percent.
Argentina recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 233.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 30 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported nine deaths.
Suriname follows with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 150 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 10, compared to four in the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Uruguay recorded 11 deaths (up 120%), Honduras saw a 100% increase in deaths, and Ecuador saw an 81.82% increase.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,847 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 18.47% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil reported the second highest number of deaths with 1,582 (up 48.41%), Mexico with 180 deaths (down 16.67%), Chile with 171 deaths (up 4.27%), and Canada with 135 deaths (down 8.78%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 4,224. This accounts for 44 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 9,600. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,475 deaths.
