With the increasing rate of Omicron in Indonesia, currently 170 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting weekly testing percentages above the national average. Data as of Wednesday, August 3, 2022, shows the national average testing rate at 48.31 percent. This testing achievement data is calculated based on the number of people tested compared to the weekly target of each region, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest percentage of people tested per week, are Surakarta City (589%), Balikpapan City (583.39%), Mimika (479.91%), Tarakan City (353.76%), and Jayapura City (321.1%).
Surakarta City ranks first. With a population of 519,800, the weekly testing percentage is recorded at 589 percent. The latest positive rate is 2.29 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is Balikpapan City. The population of this region is recorded at 646,020. In an effort to counter the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly testing percentage is 583.39 percent. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 5.56 percent, or higher than the previous week's ratio.
Then, Mimika recorded 479.91 percent testing; Tarakan City, with a population of 267,270, recorded a weekly testing percentage of 353.76 percent; and Jayapura City, with a population of 309,760, recorded a weekly testing percentage of 321.1 percent.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on the national Covid data recapitulation, there are 190 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting a higher weekly testing percentage than before. Meanwhile, 183 other regencies/cities recorded a lower weekly testing percentage compared to the previous week's testing.
Some of the regions outside Java with the highest weekly testing percentages include Balikpapan City, Mimika, and Tarakan City, with weekly testing percentages of 583.39 percent, 479.91 percent, and 353.76 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission in some areas has decreased, the government urges everyone to continue to participate in reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
