This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, five countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while seven others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Iran (Islamic Republic). The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, February 15, 2023, was 54, with weekly growth exceeding 5.26 percent.
Malaysia ranks first, with a 75 percent weekly increase in deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded seven deaths, a 12.5 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following is India, with weekly death growth reaching 40 percent. Seven deaths were reported in this country. Daily death statistics show a 12.5% decrease compared to the previous day's eight deaths.
Next is Saudi Arabia with 12 deaths (up 33.33%), Lebanon with eight deaths (up 14.29%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) with 20 deaths (up 5.26%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,161 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 30.52% compared to the previous week. Following with the highest numbers is South Korea with 134 deaths (down 25.56%), the Philippines with 93 deaths (down 3.12%), Indonesia with 26 deaths (down 21.21%), and Hong Kong with 24 deaths (down 50%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,524. This accounts for 31.86 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 4,783. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,118.
