The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.51 million cases by Monday, December 19, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 2.02 million. This represents 44.76 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the UK grew by 0.39 percent, reaching 1.36 million. Daily statistics show a 0.02 percent increase compared to the previous day, also at 1.36 million cases.
Next, Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 1.06 percent to 334,440 compared to the previous week; in Japan, cases rose by 3.74 percent to 300,060; and in India, there were 121,680 cases (a 0.14% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 30,621, showing a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have steadily increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
