East Java's Covid-19 Death Trend Fluctuates During PPKM

The death toll in East Java Province remains one of the highest nationally. During the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat), the daily Covid-19 death rate in this province fluctuated.

An average of 137 deaths per day between July 3-8, 2021, rose to 300 deaths per day a few weeks later. In the last month, the highest number of Covid-19 deaths occurred on July 19, 2021, with 344 deaths in a single day, bringing the total death toll to 16,596. After that, the number of deaths continued to fluctuate.

East Java had the highest proportion of deaths in Indonesia until July 22, 2021. Of the 79,032 national deaths, 17,135 deaths, or 21.7% of national deaths, originated from the province.

The upward trend in Covid-19 cases occurred during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat). The central government implemented these restrictions from July 3-20, 2021, specifically throughout the provinces of Java and Bali.

The still-high rate of coronavirus transmission prompted the central government to extend the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) under the new term PPKM Level 4. This policy was in effect until July 25, 2021.

The Ministry of Health recorded that Indonesia had more than three million Covid-19 cases by July 22, 2021, with 49,509 new cases. The number of recoveries reached 2.39 million cases, with 79,032 deaths.
