This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, six countries still recorded an increase in deaths, and six others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Israel, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic), India, and Thailand. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, February 28, 2023, amounted to 108, with weekly growth exceeding 12.5 percent.
Israel recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 240 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 34 deaths, a 78.95 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Indonesia follows with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 27.78 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 23. Daily statistics show a 4.55% increase in deaths compared to the previous day, which was 22.
Next is Iran (Islamic Republic) with 33 deaths (up 13.79%), India with a 12.5% increase in deaths, and Thailand with a 12.5% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 583 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 38.57% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan recorded 344 deaths (down 15.48%), South Korea recorded 96 deaths (down 18.64%), the Philippines recorded 78 deaths (up 8.33%), and Israel recorded 34 deaths (up 240%).
Total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 1,236. This accounts for 25.6 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 4,828. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,666.
