The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.58 million cases by Wednesday, August 10, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 1.5 million cases. This represents 32.67 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the UK grew by 0.68 percent, reaching 1.27 million cases. Daily statistics show a 0.08 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.27 million.
Next, Germany saw a 0.09 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 366,300 cases compared to the previous week. France saw a 3.44 percent increase, reaching 194,550 cases, and Japan reported 155,410 cases (a 0.78% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 17,766, a 1.65 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
