The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus is spreading globally, reaching 1.03 million cases by Wednesday, February 9, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United Kingdom recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 401,520 cases. This represents 39.03 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United States follows, with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 40.58 percent. Daily Omicron cases in the US increased by 4.12 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 330,730 cases.
Denmark reported 66,080 Omicron cases (a 31.34% increase), Germany 38,147 cases (a 26.98% increase), and France saw an 89.86 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 25,092 compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 4,328, a 5.07 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
