Sinovac Vaccine Receives Emergency Use Authorization: Which Countries Are Buying It?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted emergency use authorization for the Sinovac-manufactured Covid-19 coronavirus vaccine. This authorization indicates that the vaccine has met international standards for safety, efficacy, and production processes.

Data from the Duke Global Health Innovation Center shows that 495.8 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine had been purchased by 27 countries as of May 28, 2021. Indonesia was the largest buyer, with 125.5 million doses, followed by Turkey and Brazil with 100 million doses each.

Chile purchased 60 million doses of the Chinese-made vaccine. The Philippines and Mexico purchased 25 million and 20 million doses respectively. Malaysia's purchase of the Sinovac vaccine totaled 14 million doses.

Azerbaijan also purchased nine million doses of the Sinovac vaccine. Hong Kong and Colombia each purchased 7.5 million doses.

Despite the availability of vaccines, the public is urged to always implement the 3M health protocols when engaging in outdoor activities. These protocols, consisting of wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap, are crucial in preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
